James Roland Kiper, 72, of Colfax, Illinois, died at 11:55 a.m. Saturday, March 2, 2019 at his residence in Colfax.

Jim was born Aug. 2, 1946 in Bloomington, Illinois the son of Edgar F. and Anna Saddler Kiper. He married Nancy Durflinger on July 5, 1985 in Cooksville, Illinois. She survives in Colfax.

Also surviving are one son, Travis Waterman, Colfax; one grandson, Aiden Waterman, Colfax; siblings, Edgar F. Kiper Jr., Hudson, Kentucky, Barbara Spurling, Bloomington, Illinois, Thomas (Sharon) Kiper, Leitchfield, Kentucky, and Brenda (Mike) Morgan, Gridley, Illinois; sister-in-law, Marilyn Kiper, Radcliff, Kentucky; and many nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Robert Kiper; and one brother-in-law, Gary Spurling.

Jim served in the United States Marine Corps during the Vietnam War. He received the Bronze Star and the Purple Heart for his service to our country.

Jim was a 35-year employee at Interlake Steel, Pontiac, Illinois.

Inurnment will take place at 11 a.m. Friday, March 15, 2019 in Calvert Community Church Cemetery, McDaniels, Kentucky with military rites under the direction of Trent-Dowell Funeral Home in Hardinsburg, Kentucky. The family suggests memorials be given to the Davis-Kerber American Legion, Colfax, Illinois or the Colfax Christian Church.
