James “J.R.” Barton, age 81, of Caneyville, Kentucky, passed away Saturday, Jan. 26, 2019 at his home.

He was born on July 16, 1937 in Spring Lick, Kentucky, the son of the late Ottie and Jewel Maiden Barton.

He was a retired mail carrier, a former salesman for Moorman Feed Company and a farmer. He enjoyed hunting and fishing and was a 50-year member of the Fordsville Masonic Lodge.

He is survived by his wife of almost 60 years, Fayetta Hayse Barton, of Caneyville; a daughter, Kim Cannon (Mike), of Falls of Rough, Kentucky; a son, Bryan Barton (April), of Falls of Rough; five grandchildren, Amanda Lambert (Jonathan), Adam Barton, Dustin Cannon, Austin Cannon (Brittney) and Avery Zelma Barton; and three great-grandchildren, Brycen, Brody and Brynlee Lambert.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by a son, Jeffrey Barton, and two brothers, Richard and Raymond Barton.

Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Wednesday, Jan. 30, 2019 at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield with Bro. Mike Cannon officiating. Burial will be in the Layman Memorial Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 1 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday and from 9 a.m. Wednesday until time of services.

A Masonic Service will be held at 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 29, 2019 at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield.
