Howard Zetro (Sonny) Tomes, age 80, of Leitchfield, Kentucky, passed away Tuesday, July 30, 2019 at his residence surrounded by his family.

He was born on Aug. 22, 1938 in Leitchfield to Thomas and Essie Carwile Tomes.

Sonny was a lifelong traveling salesman. He worked for Belknap Hardware and Manufacturing Co. for 24 years and Wallace Hardware for 19 years. He was a former director of Citizens Bank and Trust Co. of Leitchfield, and a member of the Leitchfield Masonic Lodge. He enjoyed real estate development as a pastime as well as acting in the Doc Brown Show at Pine Knob, Kentucky for several years.

He is survived by his wife, Rita Tomes; one son, Howard T. Tomes; and one step-son, Adam Ramsey. He is also survived by one brother, Roger Tomes (Lois); one brother-in-law, Raymond Butler; three very special nephews, Jeff McDowell, Mark Butler and Aaron Tomes; one niece, Alison Ford; and four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two sisters, Mildred McDowell and Nancy Butler.

Funeral services will be at 2 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 3, 2019 at the Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro. Murl Meredith will be officiating. Burial will be in the Walnut Hill Cemetery.

Visitation was at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 2 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday and will also be from 9 a.m. Saturday until time of services.
