2019-2020 Lady Cougars Freshman and 8th grade Basketball team

The Lady Cougars Basketball team is geared up and ready to start the 2019-2020 season.

Ted Hill will be the coach in charge this season taking over Josh Basham, who took Grayson to an 11-16 record last year, and he has a great chance to hit the ground running.

Hill will have some talent to work with. Senior Kenzie Renfrow and Junior Rachel Snyder headline the returnees. Renfrow was team main scoring option last year chipping in 12 points a game while Snyder was right behind her averaging 10 points a game with seven rebounds, and they won't be alone.

They will be backed up by a duo of seniors that were also instrumental to last year's team, Laura Vincent and Bailey Snyder. Vincent can play inside and out averaging nine points and eight rebounds last year and Bailey Snyder went for eight a game while grabbing four rebounds.

Alongside them will be Ella Robinson, Jenna Nash, Brianna Dennis, and Raigan Cave, who all were part of the rotation. This gives Hill an experienced team returning almost all their scoring and rebounding from last season, prime for a deep run.

The Lady Cougars got off to a strong start last year sitting at 10-8 with a chance to win the district top seed but hit a wall. The season grind combined with crucial injuries made the team close out the year on a 1-8 run to finishing at 11-16.

Last year's stats included a total of 185 two-and three-point field goals, 153 free throws and 407 rebounds made by Grayson County players.

Coach Hill said, "Our expectations are extremely high heading into the 2019-2020 season. Led by four outstanding seniors, the revival of a proud program is very exciting."

Returning seniors this year are Jenna Nash, Kenzie Renfrow, Bailey Snyder, and Laura Vincent.

According to Hill, the three main goals for the team are to gain control of the district again and to be the number one seed, win the district tournament, and win the region championship.

He said, "Those three goals will not change, even after the players do."

Now, most of that team returns for another run looking to avoid the same fate and learn from the experience.
