The Cougars are preparing themselves for the 12th District Final versus rivals Edmonson County on the road this weekend.

After finishing the regular season with 15-14 record, Grayson extended their year, defeating Trinity (Whitesville) 45-40 Tuesday night in the first round of the playoffs.

The duo Spencer Sharp and Q'Daryius McHenry carried the offensive load, both getting 16 points apiece. Junior Nolan Shartzer was right behind them adding eight points with seven rebounds.

The win gives the Cougars the chance to repeat as district champs this weekend and also guarantees their place in the regional tournament next week, no matter the result.

Edmonson reached the final defeating Butler County 44-42, right after the Cougars game, to set up the match.

It will be the seventh time that the Wildcats will face the Cougars for the district championship game since the new district was formed back in 2006, which is more than any other pairing.

The two teams split the season series this year with each team winning on their home floor. Edmonson won the first matchup 51-43 and Grayson took the second game 33-30.

The Lady Cougars season on the basketball court came to end this week, after failing in the first round of the 12th District tournament Monday.

Grayson encountered Trinity (Whitesville) in the first round of play and didn't put up much of fight, losing 55-49 at Edmonson County.

Laura Vincent and Bailey Snyder made the 12th district All-Tournament in their efforts to extend their season, but the losing route the team was on was too strong.

This loss ends the Lady Cougars season 11-16 and also puts to end a disastrous run over the last month. Back on January 15, Grayson beat Owensboro 53-52 to extend a three-game winning streak and improved their record to 10-5.

Since then the Lady Cougars went 1-9 in the last 10 games to flame out their season.

The only positive of this situation, is the team will only lose one senior and will get another chance to fix the ending during next season. That includes the top four scorers all returning for at least one more year.
