The Grayson County High School Volleyball team's postseason run came to an end this week.

The Lady Cougars were riding on a high after winning the 12th district championship last week, but they couldn't carry over that momentum to the 3rd Region Tournament.

Grayson lost in straight sets 3-0 (25-21, 25-21, 25-19) to Muhlenberg County in the very first round at Hancock County to end the year with a 16-13 record.

They started the match on the back foot and kept playing catch up the rest of the day. While Muhlenberg jumped up to a quick three-point margin to set the tone early, Grayson did have a nice run to get down just one at 12-11 and force the Lady Mustangs to call a timeout, but the Lady Mustangs responded by getting six straight points to grab a healthy lead again.

The Lady Cougars did have some fight, getting within two points after being down 23-18, but they left themselves too much work to do and Muhlenberg took the opening set 25-21.

In the second set, it was Grayson that found the early lead. The Lady Cougars opened the set with a 5-0 run and found themselves up 16-10 at the halfway point but hit a rough patch, closing it out scoring just 5 points the rest of the way.

Muhlenberg called a timeout that stopped Grayson's scoring run and closed out the set outscoring them 15-5. That killed the Lady Cougars' spirit for the rest of the night.

Grayson lingered around in the third, staying within three points for the first half of the set, but then Muhlenberg found another gear to close out the match and advance to the regional semifinal. The set was tied at 16 a piece before the Lady Mustangs went on a 9-3 to punch their ticket to the next round.

Grayson was within striking distance in all three sets, but late surges by Muhlenberg ultimately gave them the postseason win.

Ella Robinson was slowed down on the night, finishing with just 14 kills on the match on a night Grayson had 29 total as a team. Alexis Hart could only muster setting up 25 assists, and the defense finished with 21 digs for the night.

The Lady Cougars' season ended in disappointing fashion Tuesday night, but the season still has been a success, as they claimed their first silverware since winning the district back in 2011 and having the deepest postseason since reaching the regional final back in 2014.
