A Falls of Rough man was arrested Sunday night after eluding police for weeks.

According to a press release from the Grayson County Sheriff's Office, at approximately 7:30 p.m. on Sunday, GCSO Deputies arrested 39-year-old Steven Phelps after he allegedly barricaded himself in an unoccupied trailer.

The press release states that Phelps was wanted for a theft that occurred in the Indian Valley community earlier in the month, and he is also a suspect in several other burglaries and thefts in the area.

According to Phelps' arrest citation, the GCSO attempted to serve a warrant and to investigate a domestic violence complaint filed by Phelps' wife. The arrest citation states that he allegedly grabbed his wife around the throat and choked her in addition to punching her in the face.

Deputies located Phelps trespassing at a residence, and, according to the arrest citation, Phelps told deputies he had been staying in that residence for the previous two days.

In order for deputies to gain entry to the residence, they had to use force on the front door, which, the citation states, had been screwed shut.

The press release states that deputies entered the residence at gunpoint and were able to arrest Phelps without further incident.

Phelps was charged with criminal trespassing, first degree; assault, second degree (domestic violence); and second-degree burglary, and was lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.

According to the press release, Phelps was also charged with theft by unlawful taking under $500 due to an outstanding warrant.

"We expect the number of complaints and thefts in the Indian Valley area to decrease while Phelps remains incarcerated," said Grayson County Sheriff Norman Chaffins.
