A Leitchfield man was arrested this week on numerous sex abuse charges.

On Tuesday, the Ohio County Sheriff’s Office arrested 30-year-old James Derek Heaverin, of Leitchfield, in reference to an investigation that originated in the Hartford, Kentucky area, according to a press release from Leitchfield Police Department Detective Kevin Smith.

Officers received information that an adult subject had made contact with a juvenile on social media in an attempt to set up a meeting for sexual reasons, and the subject had also allegedly sent illicit photographs and videos to the juvenile, the release states.

The Leitchfield Police Department, Ohio County Sheriff’s Office, and Kentucky State Police Internet Crimes Against Children Unit conducted a search warrant at the Leitchfield residence of the subject and he was arrested, Smith said in the release.

Heaverin has been charged with prohibited use of electronic communication system to procure a minor/peace officer RE: sexual offenses; unlawful transaction with a minor, first – illegal sex act, under 16 years of age (attempt); and three counts of sexual abuse, first degree.

He was transported to the Grayson County Detention Center, where, as of Friday morning, he remained lodged.
