Staff Report

On Sunday, at approximately 4:35 a.m. Grayson County Sheriff's Deputy DJ Newton was dispatched to the 14800 block of Beaver Dam Road in reference to a burglary in progress.

Dispatchers advised that the caller stated that he was unaware who the subjects were. Although the suspects fled before the arrival of deputies; the homeowner was able to give a description of the vehicle and the suspects in question, according to a press release from the Grayson County Sheriff's Office.

"Assistance was requested from the Leitchfield Police Department to observe for the suspect vehicle on Beaver Dam Road while our deputy was en route to the scene," said Sheriff Norman Chaffins.

According to the press release, information was received from the homeowner that he may have fired shots into the vehicle.

"Further investigation revealed that the truck in question had been stopped by the Leitchfield Police Department. The truck did have indications that it had been peppered with projectiles," Chaffins said.

A positive identification on the stopped suspects was made by the homeowner after he was summoned to the traffic stop.

According to the press release, additional evidence was obtained by the GCSO that indicated that the two males stopped by the LPD were indeed the ones who allegedly tried to force their way into the victim's home.

Dennis Bounds, 65, of Leitchfield, and John Orndorff, 51, of Louisville, were both arrested, charged with attempted burglary in the first degree, and lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center.

Orndorff is currently lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center, and Bounds has been released.

Chaffins states that additional charges are forthcoming.
