A Grayson County High School teacher was arrested Monday, March 12 for Sodomy, 3rd Degree, in relation to alleged sexual activity with a student.

26-year-old GCHS teacher and Assistant Boys Soccer Coach Jonathan D. Jones was reported to be involved in a sexual relationship with a 17-year-old student, according to an arrest citation filed by School Resource Officer Ian Renfrow, of the Leitchfield Police Department.

The citation goes on to say, through investigation, it was determined that, on Thursday, March 8, 2018, an occasion arose where the 17-year-old student "performed oral sex" on Jones at his residence.

An arrest warrant was filed, in which Renfrow states that the incident occurred at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday and that Jones committed Sodomy, 3rd Degree - a Class D felony - when he, as a person in a position of authority, allegedly engaged in deviate sexual intercourse with a female under the age of 18 with whom he comes into contact as a result of that position.

Jones was initially lodged in the Grayson County Detention Center before being released after making his bond, which was set at $10,000/50 percent cash, according to Grayson County Jailer Jason Woosley.

He is scheduled to be arraigned in Grayson County District Court at 9 a.m. on Thursday, March 15.

Grayson County Schools Superintendent Doug Robinson issued the following statement to the media following the arrest:

"The district was informed Monday that an arrest had been made by the Leitchfield Police Department regarding alleged actions of GCHS teacher Jonathan Jones. We are cooperating fully with this investigation, and remain committed to taking steps to ensure the well-being of our students."

Among other situations, Kentucky Revised Statute 510.090 states that a person is guilty of Sodomy, 3rd Degree, when "Being a person in a position of authority or position of special trust, as defined in KRS 532.045, he or she engages in deviate sexual intercourse with a minor less than eighteen (18) years old with whom he or she comes into contact as a result of that position."
