Ashton Willis gets her hair cut by Abigail Flores at First Baptist Church's Love Leitchfield event.

The Leitchfield First Baptist Church held the first annual Love Leitchfield event last Saturday in order to provide the community with free medical screenings, haircuts and school supplies.

Over 320 people participated in this event.

According to event coordinators Lauren and Brandon Bishop, they wanted to find a mission trip in Kentucky, but everything kept falling through. They said they thought it would be a good idea to organize their own because they wanted to do something for the community.

"We wanted to use the gifts we have in the church," said Lauren Bishop.

With that in mind, they arranged the Love Leitchfield event, in which they offered free medical, dental and vision screenings through Twin Lakes Family Dental, Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center, and the Leitchfield Lions Club.

They also offered free haircuts from Cavaline Votaw and Abby Flores, and students received everything on their school supply lists.

First Baptist Church also held an event to show their appreciation to teachers later in the day.

The Bishops count the day as a huge success and plan to hold the event again next year.
