The city of Caneyville is moving forward with plans to establish code enforcement.

During Monday night's regular Caneyville City Commission meeting, city officials came to a consensus to begin seeking three city residents to serve on a Caneyville Code Enforcement Board.

These three citizens will serve on a volunteer basis to conduct hearings and render decisions on potential code enforcement violations.

The decision to move forward with code enforcement followed officials' attendance at a recent community meeting, during which leaders from the city of Franklin shared their success with code enforcement.

"I think we need to do it," said City Commissioner Mike Geary Monday. "I think the key to it is finding three people to serve on a board."

Caneyville residents interested in being considered for a position on the Caneyville Code Enforcement Board should contact Caneyville City Hall at 270-879-9701 or visit city hall at 304 East Maple St. Officials said these individuals must be reliable and have a desire to clean up their community.
