A Grayson County High School math teacher was killed Friday after her car was struck by a train.

Shortly after 4 p.m. on Friday afternoon, the Grayson County Sheriff's Office, Leitchfield Fire Department, Grayson County EMS, and Grayson County Coroner's Office responded to the railroad crossing on Blackrock Drive in Leitchfield on a reported vehicle versus train crash.

Leading up to the collision, a white Honda Accord, driven by 63-year-old Phyllis Minton, of Clarkson, was travelling up Blackrock Drive when it crossed the railroad tracks into the path of an oncoming train.

The Honda was struck on its driver's side and came to a rest alongside the tracks.

Minton, a longtime math teacher at GCHS, was pronounced dead at the scene by Grayson County Coroner Joe Brad Hudson.

There were no caution lights or bars at the railroad crossing.

GCSO Sergeant Fred Norder is leading the investigation into the accident. Personnel from P&L Railroad also responded to the scene to investigate.
