A Leitchfield woman was injured after heavy rains caused her vehicle to hydroplane on Salt River Road on Monday morning.

According to an accident report filed with the Grayson County Sheriff’s Department, 46-year-old Marilyn Mattingly, of Annetta Road, was travelling south on Salt River Road approximately three miles north of Leitchfield when the 2000 Mercury Cougar she was operator hydroplaned and she lost control of the vehicle at around 7:54 a.m.

The vehicle ran off of the outside shoulder of the roadway before crossing Van Meter Lane and coming to a final rest in a field after hitting and damaging a fence and sign belonging to Marvin R. Dixon, the report said.

Mattingly was treated at the scene and transported to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center by Grayson County EMS. Leitchfield Fire Department also responded and assisted.

Mattingly, who had to be removed from the vehicle by mechanical means, suffered incapacitating back injuries.

The vehicle, which is licensed to Jean A. Mattingly, was removed from the scene by private means after incurring moderate frontal damage.
