A Caneyville man died on Friday night after a shootout with three Leitchfield Police Officers.

According to unconfirmed sources, Brandon Green, 31, Caneyville, later died after being transported to a Louisville-area hospital.

At around 10 p.m. on March 5 Leitchfield Police Officer Brandon Brooks was notified inside IGA (Shell gas station on South Main Street) that a man was outside the store with a high-powered rifle.

Green was asked by Brooks to drop his rifle, but Green refused.

LPD Sergeant Jack Holland arrived on the scene as backup for Brooks. Green and Holland exchanged gunfire.

By that time, a third officer, Brandon Cook had arrived and tried to assist. Sources reported that Green shot at Cook also.

Green was hit by Cook's gunfire several times.

Officers involved in the altercation were transported to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center for minor injuries.

LPD Detective Gary Troutman confirmed the officers were treated and later released last night. He also confirmed the three officers involved in the case.

He added that the Kentucky State Police would be taking charge of the investigation.

"Because of the nature of what took place," Troutman advised, "anytime we have an officer or officers involved in a shooting, we contact KSP and have them do the investigation. Officers Brandon Brooks, Brandon Cook and Sergeant Jack Holland have been put on administrative leave while the investigation is being conducted."

Members of the Grayson County Sheriff's Department were also on the scene Friday night to assist.
