A man and woman were arrested last Saturday evening after being found passed out in a parked car at Hanging Rock Missionary Baptist Church.

Officers with the Grayson County Sheriff’s Department discovered the pair at just after 9 p.m. on January 12 inside their vehicle with the keys in the ignition, according to the arrest report.

33-year-old Keisha Gibson, of King Road in Leitchfield, was found behind the wheel of the car, and was subsequently charged with operating a vehicle under the influence of alcohol, second offense, after failing field sobriety tests. Timothy Tolliver Jr., 26, of Grayson Springs Road in Clarkson, was charged with alcohol intoxication in a public place after failing a preliminary breath test (often known as a breathalyzer).

Both Gibson and Tolliver were taken to the Grayson County Detention Center, but have since been released.

Sheriff Rick Clemons commented on the case Friday morning, saying that such charges are not just for drivers who are on an actual roadway while under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

“If your vehicle is still running or your keys are still in the ignition, you can be charged.”

The severity of the crime, he said, is the same anytime you are in control of a vehicle while under the influence.

When asked what a driver should do if they feel like they are too intoxicated to be behind the wheel, Clemons said “pull over, take the key out of the ignition, and call someone to come and get you. Do not stay behind the steering wheel.”

He said that in a day and time when everyone has a cell phone, there is no excuse for not calling a friend or family member to pick you up instead of remaining behind the wheel.
