James Edward Richards, age 79, of Caneyville, passed away Monday, January 14, 2013, at the Hospice of Southern Kentucky, in Bowling Green.

He was born on February 21, 1933 in Edmonson County, the son of the late Walter and Lillie Blair Richards.

He was a retired construction worker who enjoyed bluegrass and gospel music. He was a member of the Pleasant Union (Wilson) United Baptist Church.

He is survived by his wife, Maxine Farris Richards, one son, Sonny Richards, of Caneyville; two daughters, Karen (Paul) Newton, of Florida, and Phyllis (Rudy) Woosley, of Caneyville; his grandchildren, Matthew James Willis (Debbie), Katrina Newton, James Cody Richards (Janie) Jacob Richards,and one great-granddaughter, Christina McDowell.

Other than his parents, he was preceded in death by one sister, Juanita Mattingly.

Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Friday, January 18, 2013, at Dermitt Funeral Home in Leitchfield. Bro. David Reynolds and Bro. Randy Meredith will be officiating. Burial will be in the Sanders Cemetery.

Visitation will be at the Dermitt Funeral Home from 10:00 a.m. to 9:00 p.m. on Thursday and from 9:00 a.m. Friday until time of services.
