To the Editor:

It’s that time of year again — time to plan for the Annual “Halloween Safe Spot” trick-or-treat event at the Grayson County Fairgrounds!

First, to all of you who have participated in the past, I want to express my deep gratitude for your help and support year after year in this effort to provide a safe, drug- and alcohol-free place for our children to trick-or-treat. I know all of you who have come out to work the event can attest that we have a great time being with the Grayson County kids.

Second, to all of you who have not participated in the past, this will be a great year to start, and it takes very little effort in order to reap great rewards.

“Halloween Safe Spot” will take place from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 31, with set up any time that day; the fairgrounds gates will open at 9 a.m. that day.

If you would like to participate there are a couple of different ways you can do so. You can donate candy or goodies of some kind; we take monetary donations which are used to purchase treats for the kids, decorations, or activities to make the night possible; or you may choose to set up a trick-or-treat booth. If you choose to set up a booth, feel free to decorate it however you wish and even come in costume. If you would rather donate goodies or money please contact me and I will schedule a time to either pick them up or you can drop them off at my office, located in the old hospital building across from the public library, or at the Grayson County Board of Education building.

For those planning to have a booth, there is absolutely no fee for this. You will simply need to contact me. You will need to provide your own tables, chairs and decorations if you want them. Most importantly, be sure to come prepared for approximately 3,000 trick-or-treaters — we average this number each year.

We strongly encourage as many as will to come out and set up a booth. You are guaranteed a great time!!!!
