A one-vehicle accident on the Western Kentucky Parkway Wednesday afternoon sent one man to the hospital and earned him a date in court for purportedly being on multiple drugs at the time of the collision.

Detective Adam Cottrell was on duty with the Grayson County Sheriff’s Department when E-911 dispatch alerted him to an overturned vehicle that was alleged to be between mile markers 113 and 116 along the parkway.

As Cottrell searched for the vehicle, dispatch called again to advise that the Clarkson Volunteer Fire Department had located the wreckage at mile marker 112, between the west-bound Clarkson off-ramp and the west-bound lane of traffic in a drainage ditch.

At the scene, Cottrell, who filed an accident report with the GCSD, spoke with the driver of the vehicle, 19-year-old Joshua A. Price, of Elizabethtown.

According to the report, Price told Cottrell that he “could not remember much about the accident,” but knew that he had run off of the roadway, crossed the ramp and overturned an unknown number of times.

Upon investigation, the officer found that the vehicle, a 2003 Chevrolet Blazer licensed to David Price, of Elizabethtown, appeared to have travelled onto the west-bound shoulder of the roadway before crossing the off ramp and travelling down a hill, at which point it collided with an earthen embankment and subsequently overturned multiple times.

The vehicle came to a final rest on it’s top in the east-bound drainage ditch, showing signs of severe damage in “all areas of the vehicle.”

Price told the officer that he had taken “mushrooms,” which is a slang term for a type of mind-altering drug, and that he had also smoked marijuana prior to the accident.

Price, who was the only person in the Chevrolet at the time of the wreck, sustained multiple non-incapacitating injuries and was taken by ambulance to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center for treatment.

Price was not arrested, due to the nature of his injuries, but was cited to court. He is being charged with operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol/drugs, and operating a vehicle with no operator’s license.
