Leitchfield’s Firefighter Park could have a new attraction in coming months.

Wednesday, the city’s tourism commission accepted a $27,939 bid from Bluegrass Recreational Products of Louisville for a splash pad-type water feature at the park. The bid covers equipment and installation, and will include up to six bubble- and sprayer-type in-ground features plus two above-ground features.

The equipment will include pressure sensors that will engage when children run across it, so the water will not be spraying continuously.

The city will do the concrete work for the splash pad, which will be about 20 by 25 feet.

The tourism commission had opened bids for the project earlier in May. Three bids were received: one from a Mesa, Ariz., firm was rejected because it didn’t meet the specifications.

Clarkson-based Miracle of Kentucky and Tennessee Playground Equipment had bid on the project, but withdrew after the commission decided against the city doing the entire installation, Tourism Director Ilsa Johnson said.

Also Wednesday, the commission:

* Approved its 2012-13 budget, which projects $607,000 in revenue and $579,428 in spending. The budget must also be approved by the Leitchfield City Council.

* Approved having Dan Drane do the commission’s audit, at a cost of $2,500.
