Louisville auditor Robert C. Ryan gave the Clarkson City Commission a clean audit report Thursday in a special called meeting.
However, Ryan said there were a couple of accounting problems that need fixing. One dealt with the cash receipts in the evenings at City Park. And the other was a request for more oversight on purchases by the Fire Department.
Ryan said he understood the shortage of personnel at city hall, but he urged the commission to draw up a policy on receiving and accounting for the park receipts, especially at night.
He also asked the commission to review and approve all purchases by the Fire Department, “since they do not operate as a separate entity from the city.”
He said the mayor and commissioners could provide the oversight and internal controls needed in both areas.
Ryan said the city had spent just over $414,000 in the year ending June 30, 2006, but income in the same period came out to $418,000.
The only shortage Ryan said he found was a $34,000 net loss in the sewer operation.
Mayor Bonnie Henderson called an executive session to “discuss personnel in connection to the audit.”
Before adjourning, the commission authorized the mayor to send a letter to the Elizabethtown Airport Board in support of an expansion to included regional jet airline service.
She said her letter would support the airport expansion, “if the fares can be kept competitive, and because it will be a boon to future development for both the county and the City of Clarkson.”
Commissioners quickly approved sending the letter.
