Five jailed in meth raid

Five people, including a Leitchfield veterinarian, were arrested Thursday in Caneyville on charges stemming from an alleged meth lab.

Arrested at the home of William Payne, Jr., 32, 10890 Beaver Dam Road, according to the Grayson County Sheriff's Department, were Payne, Michael Harp, 26, of Caneyville, Lorna Garner, 27, of Brownsville, Crystal Brooks, 24, of Leitchfield and Larry Brooks, 28, also of Leitchfield.

Sheriff's deputies, the Greater Hardin County Narcotics Task Force, and Kentucky State Police searched the Payne home about 10:30 p.m. Thursday and reported they found an active methamphetamine lab. Also found on the property "was a large amount of illegal drugs and drug paraphernalia, plus several firearms," the officers' report said.

All were charged with manufacturing methamphetamine, police said. In addition, Payne was charged with possession of a controlled substance in the 1st degree and Larry Brooks was also charged with trafficking in methamphetamines, as well as carrying a concealed weapon, reports said.

The investigation is ongoing and additional charges and arrests are expected, police said.

All were lodged in the Grayson County Jail.
