Bratcher and her older sister Judi began discussing future careers several years ago when Judi suggested becoming a registered dietician. Bratcher did some research on the career and talked to Jennifer Turner, a registered dietician working at Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center. She liked the career.
Once the decision was made Bratcher couldn't wait to get started. Last semester, in addition to her school work at GCHS, Bratcher also took on College Math 109. She continued her college classes with the freshman English requirement this semester.
Bratcher will be graduating high school with six college credits already on her record. Her summer break will be spent on anatomy and physiology classes at Elizabethtown Community College. In the fall she will pursue a hefty 18 hours of college classes. Full time college students are only required to take 12 hours of classes.
When Bratcher transfers to Western Kentucky University she will be ready to enter the dietician program with the required 24 hours of study credits. The program usually takes five years for students to get through but Bratcher is determined to make the degree a four year study.
Bratcher is excited about her career choice and the challenge that college is putting in front of her. She said she didn't want to waste time in college and she plans to volunteer in her field to get the experience needed to get into the WKU program.
Such determination and focus from a teen is rarely seen but also rare is any teen being nominated to Student's Who's Who for three years in a row. Bratcher has received the teacher nominated honor for three straight years.
At GCHS Bratcher ranks in the top 10% of the senior class with a 3.87 GPA. She is secretary of the the Future Business Leaders of America.
Bratcher went on an exciting London/Scotland trip with the senior class. Her brother, Scott, also went as a chaperon. One of the events on the tour was a witchery walk and Bratcher was mistakenly included. One of the performers ran past Bratcher and got hung in her good pulling her into the rock siding of a building.
Scott caught his unconscious sister before her head hit the cement flooring. Bratcher was taken to a hospital where she was treated and released. Her adventure received a lot of notice and some exaggeration when she got home.
During school Bratcher co-ops to Leitchfield Deposit Bank where she works in bookkeeping. She says all the people she works with are really nice.
Bratcher gets along well with her parents and treasures the times she has spent with them. Some of her favorite memories are of shopping with her mom and helping her dad with his '57 Chevy, she got to hold the light.
Her parents have always told her to be honest, be good and go to church.
In her spare time Bratcher enjoys going to demolition derbies with her boyfriend Craig.
