With nine teams competing, the middle school girls team took top honors, scoring 49 points by placing their five scoring runners in the top 15 positions. Molly Beeler was the first Grayson County runners across the line, finishing fourth in the 1.5-mile race. Brittany Bird finished seventh, Kylee Sipes was 11th, Victoria Wright was 12th and Whitney Lacefield was 15th. In non-scoring times, Megan Beeler finished 23rd and Shawna Ray finished 37th.
Running in the freshman and under race, April Decker finished fifth and Tana Ray was 16th.
The boys freshman and under race saw seven team members finish in the top 25, good enough for a second-place overall finish. Zack Mattingly (5th), Tommy Owens (10th) and Thomas Parrigan (17th) were freshman runners in the race. Middle school runners included Donovan Smith (9th), Josh Smith (15th), Chad Byrd (25th), Sam Jackson (26th), Chad Clemons (27th), Troy Cary (28th), Dustin Larrimore (40th), Nick Beeler (42nd), Tyler Swift (50th), and Jacob Skaggs (51st).
In the high school varsity races, the girls team, still plagued with injuries, sent just four girls to the line, not enough to qualify for a team score. Julie Dudgeon finished 20th in a time of 22:56 to lead her teammates Brooke Hack (21st), Brittany Robison (30th) and Mary Beth Tomes (37th).
The boys team, running at full strength, placed all six team members in the top 20. George Canter led his teammates by finishing third. Jason Dudgeon was fifth, Jordan Barrett was sixth, Josh Pawley was 11th, Mark Bass was 13th and Wes Gift finished 17th.
The Cougars run this Saturday at Kereiakes Park, in Bowling Green, in the Sky Conference Meet.
