4-H Shooting Sports start in April

By Kindra Jones - Grayson County Extension Agent for 4-H Youth Development

Kids love 4-H Shooting Sports and it’s nearly time to get back on the range and start practicing!

Trap, Archery and Rifle are all open and available to take new members in their clubs. You do not have to own a gun or a bow to be in these clubs, as each one has their own equipment for their members to use. Participation age typically starts at age 9, but some 7-8 year olds may be able to join. All 4-H Shooting Sports coaches are certified and background checked.

Rifle will begin on April 9, weather permitting, at 12:00 noon. You will meet at coach, Rusty McGee’s gun shop, next to Handyman’s Discount Supply Store, off of Highway 54, in Short Creek. From Handyman’s you will caravan to the shooting range.

Trap begins April 11 at 5:00 p.m. and meets at the Ag Rec Park every Monday. Coaches are Jack Holland and Ralph Swift.

Archery begins April 12 at 5:00 p.m. and also meets at the Ag Rec Park every Tuesday, with coach, Wade Lashley.

4-H Shooting Sports is a great way to introduce youth to teamwork, enjoying outdoor activities, and learning about sportsmanship and competition in a positive environment. 4-H Enrollment Forms can be picked up at the Extension Office at 123 Commerce Drive in Leitchfield, or on our website at www.graysonext.org on the 4-H Youth Development page.

Please call the Extension Office at (270) 259-3492 if you have questions about any of our programs.
