Grayson County’s two representatives at the Kentucky State 3A Cross Country Championships ran well last Saturday in the meet held at the Horse Park, in Lexington.
With 30 teams and 243 runners toeing the line at the start of the 5K race, sophomore Jarrett Crawford, who won the Region 2 championship last weekend at Logan County, finished 43rd overall with a time of 16:41.08.
Lady Cougar freshman Hailey Stallings knocked 30 seconds off her fifth-place Region 2 time to finish in 19:48.65, good for 37th place. There were 29 teams and 236 runners in the girls race.
It was a good finish to a season that began with high hopes of qualifying both teams to run at state, but ended in disappointment last weekend in Russellville with neither team making it to Lexington.
The boys race was won by South Oldham’s Cole Dowdy, who finished with a time of 15:20.38. Louisville Manual’s Alena Sapienza-Wright won the girls race with a time of 18:09.45.
St. Xavier, always a powerhouse in cross country, won the team title with 37 points. South Oldham was second with 87 points and Meade County finished third with 153 points. Daviess County was fourth with 156 points and Louisville Eastern was fifth with 175 points.
Daviess County’s girls took home the team title with a total of 89 points. Louisville Male was second with 128 points. Sacred Heart took third with 133 points, Assumption was fourth with 138, and Region 2 champion Bowling Green was fifth with 161.
