Running in their final meet of the regular season, the Cougar boys cross country team finished second overall at the Western Kentucky Meet of Champions, held at Logan County High School, in Russellville. Grayson County’s girls finished fifth overall.
This meet gave the Cougars the opportunity to run on the course where the Region 2 finals will be held this coming Saturday. There was a good turnout for this race, with 19 teams and 188 runners in the boys 5K and 12 teams and 126 runners in the girls race.
Grayson County sophomore Jarrett Crawford finished second in the boys race with a time of 17:12.90, while freshman Hailey Stallings paced the Lady Cougars with a third-place finish in 20:44.00.
Regional rival North Hardin won the boys team title with 63 points while the Cougars were second with 78 points. Host Logan County finished third with 81 points and South Warren, another regional foe, was fourth with 101 points. Cumberland County’s Levi Owens was the individual winner with a time of 16:45.50.
The South Warren girls took the team title with a total of 45 points. Barren County finished second with 71 points, Rossview was third with 88 points, and Hancock County was fourth with 101. South Warren’s Caroline Haas won the individual crown with a time of 20:18.50.
Others earning points for the Cougars were: sophomore Eli Thomas, 10th in 18:08.60; sophomore Noah Saltsman, 12th in 18:16.40; sophomore Nate Saltsman, 26th in 18:56.90; sophomore Julian Colvin, 28th in 19:02.90.
Running outside the points were: sophomore Luke Weedman, 33rd in 19:15.50; senior Caleb Middleton, 65th in 20:12.10; freshman Gabriel Mudd, 113th in 22:03.80; sophomore Brennan Childress, 134th in 23:02.70; senior James McGill, 175th in 25:52.70.
Earning points for the Lady Cougars were: sophomore Heather Priddy, 23rd in 23:12.40; senior Morgan Kannapel, 29th in 23:28.90; junior Shannon Smith, 30th in 23:33.90; sophomore Grace Childress, 41st in 24:10.10.
Lady Cougars running outside the points were: freshman Rachel McMahon, 44th in 24:16.90; freshman Emery Crume, 68th in 25:28.60; sophomore Kennedy Childress, 70th in 25:33.00; sophomore Kayla Matthews, 83rd in 26:27.80; sophomore Dana Clark, 91st in 26:44.20; fifth-grader Nicole Comeaux, 118th in 31:55.30.
The Cougar cross country teams will be looking to earn trips to the Kentucky State Cross Country Championships as they compete this weekend in the Region 2 finals. The boys 5K will begin at 9 a.m., with the girls race to follow at 9:40 a.m.
