The City of Clarkson is moving up in the ranks of Kentucky cities. The town, which has been listed as a 6th class city, will officially be bumped up a notch to a 5th class locale after the signing of Kentucky House Bill 398 last week.Mayor Bonnie Henderson explained that the main benefit to the city in moving up in class rank will be the ability to adjust occupational tax rates from a flat-fee to a percentage rate.“It will be more fair this way,” Henderson said, adding that the current system, which is required of all 6th class cities, has employers paying the same flat-rate tax regardless of whether the employee is making minimum wage or earning a much larger income.
