Investigation to follow Peter Cave drowning
by Brittany Wise
Reporter

An investigation is ongoing after the body of a Vine Grove man was recovered from the waters of Peter Cave on Monday evening.

Grayson County Sheriff Rick Clemons said Tuesday that he is “just a little reluctant to call the death a normal drowning,” and said there appear to possibly be other factors at play.

The body belonged to 36-year-old Kyle Richard McGonigle, according to Deputy Coroner Howard Tomes, who responded to the scene at approximately 8:24 p.m. on Monday.

Leitchfield Fire Department also responded to the call and recovered McGonigle’s body at just after 10 p.m., along with the body of a pet who appears to have died at the same time and in the same manner as McGonigle.

According to Clemons, McGonigle had been fishing and swimming just off the dock at M & D Marina along with three other adults, Dacia R. Martin, of Upton; Cassandra Clark, of Elizabethtown; and Wesley Wilson, of Radcliff; and was reported missing at around 8:20 p.m.

Grayson County EMS responded, along with LFD, GCSO and the Coroner’s office. A search of the waters began immediately and lasted around an hour and a half.

Martin, Clark and Wilson were each cited to court for alcohol intoxication in a public place, and Clemons said that alcohol does appear to be one factor in McGonigle’s death.

“Alcohol and water don’t mix,” Clemons said. “We will not tolerate it. We can’t allow any loss of life because of it.”

He said that a death investigation is ongoing and his office is currently awaiting results from the medical examiner.

Why are you printing presumptions about the cause of his death before the autopsy is complete. Regardless of what Mr. Clemons said, what is the point in making the statement about alcohol being a possible factor at this point?
