Native American dancing, singing and drumming will take over the Grayson County Agriculture Park this weekend during the eighth annual Honor the Buffalo gathering.

Hosted by the Kentucky Native American Intertribal Council, the event will run Saturday, Aug. 18, through Sunday, Aug. 19.

Gates will open around 10 a.m. each day, with activities lasting until midnight Saturday and dusk Sunday.

Admission will be $5 for adults age 13 and over, and free for kids 12 and under, said organizer Tom Pablo.

The event is open to all, with representatives of several Native American nations expected, Pablo said.

The host drummers will be Sky Hawk Drum. Other planned events including singing and Native American dancing, he said. At points the audience will be able to join in and will be able to learn the dance movements, Pablo said.

The dancing will probably start around noon, and “we’ll go until we get tired – and that’s usually around dusk,” he said.

The gathering is the eighth hosted in Grayson County, and the seventh at the Caraway Road park, Pablo said. Past gathering have drawn crowds of 5,000 to 6,000, he said

In addition to the ceremonies, vendors selling Native American and other items will be on the grounds.

Gate proceeds are used to help pay for future programs, Pablo said.
