First responders received a call on Tuesday afternoon alerting them to a vehicle fully engulfed in flames on South Patterson Street in Clarkson.
Clarkson Police Chief Jeff King, along with the Clarkson Volunteer Fire Department were on scene quickly to combat the flames and speak with the vehicle’s owner, Billy Compton, of Clarkson.
Compton explained that he had just poured gas from two gas containers into his Dodge Ram 1500 pick-up and went inside to wash his hands. By the time he returned, the truck was flaming and his girlfriend, Beverly Compton, had escaped from behind the wheel.
He said that she had started the engine as usual and the fire immediately began in the engine of the truck, then spread quickly. No one was injured.
South Patterson Street was briefly blocked off from traffic as firefighters extinguished the flames.
