This weekend will bring the first Extreme Youth Rally to Grayson County. The free two-day event, which begins Friday at 5 p.m., was organized by area residents who saw a great need to reach our community’s young people and positively influence them.
The goal of the Extreme Youth Rally is not only to have a fun-filled Christian weekend for youth to experience, but for the community to come together as a whole to support the young people and to pray for them.
“Our youth are hurting,” said Pam Jaggers, who has been helping to organize and promote the event. Jaggers and her husband, Dennis, explained that they have seen first hand the issues with local youth and drug addictions. They have seen the path of destruction that follows these types of addiction and feel that the issues are more significant now even than they have been in the past.
Dennis Jaggers explained that he, himself, has experienced addiction, and since managing the difficult task of turning his life around, he feels like the Lord has laid it on his heart to reach out to others who are in the same position or headed in that dangerous direction.
Jaggers feels that this event is a step in the right direction to accomplish his goal of helping others out of addiction.
“As parents, we’re going to have to do something; this whole community is going to have to step up,” Pam Jaggers said.
The event’s organizers are hoping that the non-denominational rally will bring together groups from many local churches to “come together and pray for our community.”
The event, which is being hosted at the Grayson County Fair Grounds will kick off on Friday, October 12 with performances by folk contemporary Christian band Restored, and the Creekmont Mime Team.
Friday’s guest speakers will include Brother Scott Curie, Kentucky State Police Trooper Davie Norris, and Kyle Blankenship.
The event will continue on Saturday, beginning at 2 p.m. with musical performances by praise and dance group Radical Remnant, Christian rappers Down South Disciples, and praise team Redeemed by Jesus. There will also be a viewing of the film An Appalachian Dawn, and a performance by Omega Force, a popular world-class athletic strength team.
Speakers on Saturday will include Tim Macklin, Brother Lawrence Whitt, and Detective Jeff Kelsey from the Grayson County Sheriff’s Department.
A meal will also be provided to event-goers on Saturday, including hamburgers, hot dogs, chips and drinks.
While the entertainment and food are free of cost, anyone who would like to purchase an event t-shirt may do so for $15. The funds raised from selling shirts will be used to help speakers and performers from out of town cover their travel expenses.
