Funeral burglars apprehended
by Brittany Wise

The men allegedly responsible for the robbery of Dennis and Cindy Higdon’s Clarkson home while they were attending the funeral of their son, Christian, who had been brutally murdered, were apprehended by Kentucky State Police officers this week.

According to a press release from KSP Trooper Norman Chaffins, 40-year-old Michael S. Acord, of Magnolia, was arrested on Tuesday after pawning a gun at an area pawn shop, and was charged with possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

After tracking the weapon’s serial number through the LINK/NCIC system, law enforcement officials discovered that it had been stolen from the Higdon’s home.

“Further investigation led us to 40-year-old Timothy Terry, of Vine Grove,” said Chaffins, adding that Terry, who was arrested on Thursday, was found to be in possession of items that were stolen in the Higdon burglary as well as that of a Cecilia woman whose home was burglarized in March as she attended her husband’s funeral.

There were also items stolen from another Hardin County burglary that is currently being investigated by the Hardin County Sheriff’s Department.

Terry was charged with receiving stolen property over $500 and possession of a firearm by a convicted felon.

A third man, 42-year-old James G. Parrett, of Magnolia, was arrested on Thursday as well, after having been found to be in possession of items from the Higdon burglary and two other Hardin County burglaries. Methamphetamines were also discovered in Parrett’s home upon subsequent search.

Parrett was charged with receiving stolen property over $500 and possession of a controlled substance (methamphetamine).

Parrett was found to have pawned items from the Cecilia funeral burglary.

According to the release, nearly all of the items stolen from the Higdon home, as well as many of those from the Cecilia robbery, were recovered and returned.

“It was very rewarding to call the Higdon family and be able to tell them that we got most of their stuff back and arrested those responsible for their break-in,” Detective Ryan Johnson, of KSP, said. “Many of the items stolen were sentimental to them and were reminders of their son, Christian. They were pleased to say the least.”
As of press time on Friday, Terry was out on bond from the Meade County Detention Center, while Acord and Parrett were incarcerated at the Hardin County Detention Center.
The investigation is still ongoing, according to Chaffins, and additional charges are pending.
Burglary charges are likely for some, if not all, of the suspects in this case.
