A collision with a parked truck Tuesday afternoon, Sept. 25, scattered computer parts across part of Main Street and sent a car careening across two lanes and into a sign.

The accident happened around 12:30 p.m. According to police, William Stevenson, 80, of Leitchfield, was headed south on Main Street when his car hit the rear end of a pickup truck parked along the southwest side of the square, in front of The Computer Shop.

The force of the collision smashed the truck’s bed against the concrete planter curb, spilling some of the computer parts inside out onto the road.

Stevenson’s car continued across both lanes of traffic and struck a sign on the east side of South Main Street, just beyond Elder Wealth Management’s parking lot.

Police said Stevenson appeared confused after the accident, and was taken to Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center for treatment of minor injuries.

He was cited for failing to have car insurance.

Why is it permissible to park on the curb next to the court house anyway. It seems that the politicians, law enforcement personnel and people whom think that they are privileged park there. I have seen these vehicles parked there and you have also. Question is; why aren`t these people ticketed? Answer: law enforcement looks the other way as they park there also. This is only one of many things that are overlooked in Leitchfield. A good example is people running the stop lights and stop signs. It will take someone getting killed or severely injured and those people bringing a law suit against the city.
