Public invited to participate
Leitchfield Council members Monday (4/16) got survey forms asking for five road projects they would like to see go on the next 6-year state plan.
A public hearing by the Lincoln Trail Area Development Council has been set for 8 a.m. Wednesday April 25 for the public to make its choices from the 20 projects proposed.
The road work ranges from reconstruction of intersections on the Thomason Bypass, to the western section of the bypass, to new railroad crossings to projects intersecting with U.S. 62, 54, 79, 88, 226, 224, 187 and 737.
Surveys are available at the Public Library and at Leitchfield City Hall.
In a related project, the council reported the State Highway Department is delaying the widening of Mill Street (U.S. 62) in Leitchfield.
Only one bid was received on the project, the council reported, and that bid was nearly $3 million over the state's projected cost. New bids are expected to be let in May.
After receiving a letter from the city protesting the closing of the cheese store at the Leitchfield Bel Kauhana Plant, Manager Francine Moudry came to Monday's meeting to apologize for the closing.
However, she said 95 percent of the cheese available at the store was not made at the plant, and that contract could not be renewed.
“I'm sorry,” she said, “but we can't bring it (the store at the front of the plant) back.”
