Charles D. Bennett, age 89 of Hardinsburg, died Monday, December 24, 2012 at Breckinridge Memorial Hospital.
He was born on February 25, 1923, the son of the late Joseph P. and Allie Bertie Lewis Bennett. He was preceded in death by his wife Jeanette Bennett, who was the love of his life, one brother, Elbert Bennett, and two sisters, Evelyn Judy and Oma Turner
Charlie tried to live his life as a Christian example for his family and his friends and was a member of Hardinsburg United Methodist Church. He received a Masters degree from the University of Kentucky and an Honorary Doctorate from Lindsey Wilson College. He was a member of the Hardinsburg Rotary Club, Gideons International, the U of K Alumni Association and enjoyed watching his beloved Kentucky Wildcats. He was a farmer, banker and golfer and enjoyed all three. He was the past President and CEO of The Farmers Bank in Hardinsburg, and past chairman of Leitchfield Deposit Bank.
He is survived by five children, David Bennett, of Florid, Sarah Bennett, of Colorad, Becky Bennett, of Scottsville, KY, Annette Martin, of Hardinsburg, and Mickey Bennett, of Hardinsburg, six grandchildren, Nick, Christi, Traven, Zach, Adam and Mason, and four great-grandchildren.
Charlie had many vocations throughout his life which enabled him to provide for his family. He loved being able to donate to various charities, so in lieu of flowers, the family asks that you donate to a charity of your choice, Hardinsburg United Methodist Church or Breckinridge Memorial Hospital Foundation.
Funeral services will be held at Hardinsburg United Methodist Church on Friday, December 28, 2012 at 1 p.m. with Dr. Glenn Sowards and Rev. Greg Shannon officiating. Burial will be in the Ivy Hill Cemetery.
Visitation will be held at the church on Thursday from 4-8 p.m. and after 10 a.m. on Friday under the direction of the Trent-Dowell Funeral Home.
