Members of Grayson County's Salvation Army were busy Monday morning (Dec. 12) wrapping gift packages for local senior citizens.
Tracy Dennison with the Salvation Army said that “this is the first year we have decided to have a program like this for the county's seniors.”
Included in each gift bag, along with candy and a special note, is a $10 Wal-Mart gift card, which they can use for prescriptions, gasoline, food or “pretty much whatever they want,” Dennison said.
She also said the Salvation Army has teamed up with the Grayson County Ministerial Association this year and on December 17, when the Ministerial Association distributes their Christmas baskets, the Salvation Army will also be handing out their gift bags at the same time.
This year, Dennison said they have around 183 seniors they have made gift packages for, “they're usually those who are in the most need, either because they don't have a whole lot of family, or their families simply can't afford to provide them with much for the holidays.”
She said the packages are a way “to let our seniors know that they're special and that we're thinking of them.”
