Abortions in America

The count on the number of abortions in the United States now stands at 57 million. Unbelievable! What hardly anybody mentions is the fact that many of those people killed by abortion would be parents and even grandparents. This would now put the number of people missing from the “land of the free” well over 100,000 million people. To put it in a different perspective, with Kentucky’s population standing at 4.4 million, this is equivalent to losing 22.7 Kentuckys.

Our state stands at 4.6 percent abortions of 1,000 women of child bearing years, well below the national average of 16.9 percent. In the year 2011, Kentucky killed 3,970 people. Margaret Sanger, who founded Planned Parenthood, the largest abortion provider in the United States, wanted to plant these facilities in minority areas to reduce their population. It now appears this did not work because middle and upper income people have more abortions than low income minorities. Now with euthanasia on the rise, we are killing people on both ends of the human experience.

This is all very ugly, but there is good news. We have two great resources in our communities to help women in unplanned pregnancies. “Clear Choices” on Commerce Drive in Leitchfield (the phone number is 270-230-0303), and “Clarity, Solutions for Women” in Elizabethtown, KY (the phone is 270-234-1122). They both offer counseling and compassionate support, pregnancy testing, and crisis supplies, and much more at no charge. Clarity in Elizabethtown also has ultrasounds at no charge.

If you have experienced an abortion or helped someone else acquire one, the Catholic Church offers forgiveness to the most troubled soul. Let the love of Jesus Christ and His Church bring peace to your life. Kumbaya!
