Several weeks ago, the Kentucky’s General Assembly finally passed a redistricting bill that will define our legislative districts for the next 8 years. That accomplishment was long overdue and followed a failed effort in 2012. The original plan passed on a purely partisan basis was so unfair that it was declared unconstitutional by the Kentucky Supreme Court in near-record time. Sadly, the Democratic-led House spent a year, and many hundreds of thousands of your tax dollars defending their indefensible bill.
Moving forward, the old district lines throughout the Heartland region have been changed pretty significantly. Hardin County has been divided into 6 different legislative districts, including a new 18th District that will be partnered with Grayson County. That is the district I live in, and I am looking forward to that partnership. Although Grayson County constituents will still be blessed to be represented by C.B. Embry through 2014, I will begin offering support and focusing my efforts on promoting the needs of Grayson County.
With that in mind, it seems appropriate to at least introduce myself to you. I am a 29-year military veteran and still serve actively in the Air Force Reserve. When I served in the Air Force and Kentucky Air National Guard as a C-130 pilot, I traveled extensively—including deployments to the Middle East to support the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. I am a native Kentuckian and chose to return to the Heartland after leaving active duty in 1998. My wife, Amy, and I have been happily married for 25 years, and we are blessed with 4 children—a daughter and a son in college, a daughter in high school, and a daughter in middle school. We have always been very active at church and in numerous local charities.
More important than any detail of my resume, I am a committed Christian. That singular identity informs my worldview and motivates my outspokenness as a fiscal and social Conservative. I have been a leading advocate for the pro-life effort in Frankfort and continually call for smaller, less intrusive government.
During my tenure as State Representative, I’ve been blessed to cross paths with a number of folks from Grayson County. I’ve come to realize that our interests and aspirations are the same: to grow our community’s economy while maintaining its neighborly atmosphere, to raise our families as God intended and without the interference of heavy-handed government, and to help and encourage our friends and neighbors. I look forward to getting to know more folks throughout Grayson County. As my wife has observed, the pace of life and perspective of people we know there makes us feel very much at home already.
Finally, please know that while some will question the value of legislative districts that cross county lines, I see great potential. When I first arrived in Frankfort, one of the pressing issues for my current district was the impact of the Base Realignment and Closure on and around Fort Knox. Recognizing that BRAC would impact districts and counties far beyond my own, I reached out to legislators from throughout the region. Together, we were able to emphasize the tremendous regional impact and make BRAC-related investments a state priority. I continue to believe that while our individual counties have unique individual strengths and personalities, we must apply the leadership and reflect the wisdom of our state motto: “United We Stand, Divided We Fall.”
As the folks of Hardin County have witnessed in 4 campaigns and 7 years of legislative service, I campaign and serve with honor and integrity. I don’t take myself too seriously, but I take the privilege of serving you very seriously. I will always remain faithful to Jesus Christ, my wife and family, and the folks who I am honored to serve.
While C.B. Embry will continue to provide excellent representation for Grayson County through 2014, if there is anything I can do for you please do not hesitate to contact me.
