Grayson County High School teachers Cody Mooneyhan and Kyle Powell were recently notified that they have achieved National Board Certification.

Both have taught at GCHS for the past five years. Mooneyhan teaches Family and Consumer Science and is FCCLA sponsor. Powell teaches Math, including geometry, algebra II, and probability and stats.

Completion of the voluntary NBCT program provides teachers with the highest certification they can attain. The year-long process includes a rigorous, peer-review of the skills required to analyze and advance student achievement. Applicants must also submit a multi-part portfolio of their work, student samples, demonstrate school and community partnerships, and pass a demanding written test.

Both Mooneyhan and Powell say becoming a National Board Certified Teacher has been a longtime goal, but neither is stopping with that accomplishment. Mooneyhan now plans to pursue her doctorate in educational leadership. Powell is interested in working with and mentoring student teachers. He also plans to complete coursework that will enable him to teach dual-credit math classes at GCHS.
