ALTON — An Alton man pleaded guilty Wednesday and was sentenced to 13 years in prison on an armed robbery charge, accusing him of taking money from an individual in the Tomorrow’s Beauty Supply Store, 1802 Washington Ave.
Raquan M. Taylor, 18, of the 1100 block of Highland Avenue, and another man allegedly walked into the store while armed with a weapon and took took money from the store operator on Dec. 13.
Authorities said the men are accused of striking the victim with the weapon.
Taylor was being held on $250,000 bail. He will have to serve at least 50 percent of the time. He has no prior convictions.
Another suspect, Qwanell Superier Jones, 19, of the 1200 block of Brown Street, is awaiting trial. He is also held on $250,000 bail.
Police said last December that the two men entered the store with cloths over their faces. Both men displayed weapons, and one struck the store operator. The victim
was not seriously injured.
Police said a witness saw the men leaving, and she called police and provided a description of their clothing. An officer patrolling the area found one of the suspects and arrested him. The other was arrested a short time later.
