Since its initial launch in 2010, the Kentucky Utilities Company and Louisville Gas and Electric Company online outage map has become a valuable tool for customers, media, emergency operations and government agencies in providing near real-time outage data. Now, the company is taking the outage map to the next level, launching the next generation of features to keep pace with ever-changing technology.
The updated map, which is easily accessible from the LG&E and KU website, now includes:
· Mobile-friendly capability - The map will now render to mobile devices to better view outages in a particular region, county or neighborhood.
· A weather radar layer - Similar to what meteorologists use during their weather reports, the automatic radar layer provides real-time imagery of storms coming into the region. (This feature can be turned off manually if preferred.)
In addition, the upgraded outage map has a similar look and feel to the newly redesigned LG&E and KU corporate website and mobile “My Account.” Customers now can log in to My Account to report outages online from their mobile device.
For convenient access to the updated map online, customers can add the outage map to their mobile device home page, so it appears as an icon.
Outage Map App
LG&E and KU’s outage map app has been revamped to reflect the map’s new changes with a similar look and feel to the utilities’ redesigned website.
Individuals with mobile devices that accept automatic updates will automatically receive the newest version of the outage map app. All other devices will populate an alert message on the outage map screen, notifying them the map is in need of an upgrade. Users can get the map upgrade by downloading the new version from the app store associated with their device.
