A phone scam attempting to gather credit and/or debit card information has run rampant through Grayson County in recent weeks.

Numerous community members have reported receiving calls on, primarily, their cell phones that claim their credit and/or debit card has been compromised, according to Ryan Bratcher, VP Branch Manager of the Wilson & Muir Bank Leitchfield Office.

The calls then ask individuals to press 1 and provide personal, account information, such as the card number and PIN number, Bratcher said.

“This is a scam,” said Wilson & Muir Senior Vice President Davis Huston in a recent e-mail. “No bank, including Wilson & Muir Bank, will ever contact their clients, either by e-mail or telephone requesting specific information about an account.”

These calls have not been limited to Wilson & Muir customers either.

“They’re trying to get everybody,” Bratcher said.

Individuals who have received one of these calls, especially those who responded with their account information, are encouraged to contact their bank immediately.
