Grayson County Schools have officially set two makeup days in the spring to offset the school days cancelled due to inclement weather this month.

Superintendent Barry Anderson announced that Friday, March 28 and Friday, April 18 will now be in-school days for students.

Anderson said that he and the members of the school board made this decision following much deliberation and “after looking at our calendar, discussing the many pros and cons, and trying to anticipate how many more days we might miss, which is impossible.”

March 28, which would have been the first day off for spring break, was slated as a possible makeup day when the current school-year calendar was created. April 18 was scheduled as a professional development day for teachers, but this has now been moved to the end of the school year and will instead be used as a regular school day with students scheduled to be in attendance.
“If we miss additional days, we still have some possible makeup days built in to the calendar to use, besides just adding them on to the end of the year,” Anderson said.
If another makeup day is needed, he explained that Monday, February 17 (President’s Day) will likely be changed from a professional development day to a regular school day as well. “But hopefully, we won’t have to do so,” Anderson said.
He continued on to say that January 2 and 3 could also be considered if additional days are missed prior to the scheduled Christmas break, which will begin December 23.
Anderson said that he understands that these scheduled makeup days may not be convenient for everyone effected, but he and the board feel that this is the best decision overall for the school system.
