This coming weekend will see a number of Christmastime events across Grayson County.
The cities of Leitchfield, Clarkson and Caneyville will all be hosting their annual tree-lighting ceremonies on Friday evening, December 6.
Leitchfield’s event will kick off at 5:30 p.m. at James D. Beville City Park, while Clarkson and Caneyville which each begin their holiday events at 6 p.m. Clarkson will light the tree in the lot across from Kay’s Cafe, and follow up with refreshments and a visit from Santa in Clarkson City Hall. Caneyville’s ceremony will take place at the Bank of Caneyville.
Also on Friday will be the Extension Homemaker Christmas Social and Silent Auction, beginning at 11 a.m. at the Grayson County Extension Office.
All proceeds from the event will be donated to the Grayson County Food Pantry.
The menu will include pork or beef roast, salad, potatoes, beans, corn, bread and assorted desserts, all for just $5. Carryout plates will be available.

The Hometown Christmas 5K Walk/Run will begin at 8 a.m. Saturday morning at the pavilion in Beville park, with registration being held from 7:15 until 7:50 a.m.
Awards will be given for Overall Male and Female and for top finishers in each age group. For those wishing to compete for prizes, pre-registration is $20 and registration on the day of the event is $25. For non-competitors, registration is $15.
The Grayson County High School DECA Club will be hosting a Christmas Bazaar at the Centre on Main in order to raise funds for autism research. The event will take place from 8 a.m. until 2 p.m.
Also beginning at 8 a.m. will be the White Saturday Christmas Bazaar at the Leitchfield Church of God, located at 1548 Anneta Road.
Crafts and refreshments will be available for purchase at this fundraising event. Anyone interested in registering to host a booth can call Dean Richards at (270) 589-3727.
The St. Paul Church and School Turkey Shoot will begin at 8 a.m. as well. The event, which was originally slated for mid-October, was rescheduled due to bad weather, and will be held this coming Saturday, rain or shine.
Breakfast and lunch items will be available to purchase, and shooting will begin at 9 a.m.
The cost is $3, and each round of competition will have 14 competitors taking one shot at a target 70 feet away.
All shooting will be done with buckshot, and shells will be provided. Participants must provide their own guns.
Children must be accompanied by a parent.
The winner of each round will receive their choice of a ham or turkey.

The Hometown Christmas Parade will kick off at 10 a.m. on Saturday, travelling along a route from Grayson County Fairgrounds to Southgate Mall in Leitchfield. Participants should line up at 9 a.m. at the fairgrounds.
The theme of this year’s parade is “The Meaning of Christmas.” Anyone with questions or who wishes to register to participate in the parade may call the Chamber of Commerce at (270) 259-5587.
Following the Christmas Parade, Santa and Rudolph will be making an appearance at Whoop-de-do Design on the square. Bring by your little ones for a photo opportunity anytime before 4 p.m.
The Bel Relay for Life Fundraising Team will host a womanless beauty pageant, cornhole tournament, chili supper and auction at Clarkson Elementary School.
The cornhole tournament and chili supper will begin at 2 p.m., with the auction following at 4 p.m. The pageant will take place after the auction.

From 4:30 p.m. until 8 p.m., stop by Rough River Dam State Resort Park for Supper with Santa in Grayson’s Landing Restaurant. Children age five and under eat free, and children’s activities and holiday crafts will be available. The state park encourages visitors to bring their camera for photo opportunities with Santa Claus.
Take Note Community Choir will host a holiday performance at 6 p.m. at Caneyville Church of Christ. There is no cost to attend the performance. The group will also be performing on Sunday, December 15 at 7 p.m. at Clarkson Baptist Church.
