After much deliberation, the Leitchfield Tourism Commission selected the name for the currently-under-construction pool to be Leitchfield Aquatic Center.

In August of this year, the Commission held a contest requesting names for the aquatic center from Grayson County students. If one of the students’ entries were selected, he or she would win a season pass to the center.

Several entries were received, but after discussion during the special-called, Tuesday, December 3 Commission meeting, Leitchfield Aquatic Center was selected as the official name.

During the discussion, Commissioner Randy Pauley said any name that was selected should contain Leitchfield.

While none of the student-submitted entries were chosen, the Commission passed a motion to provide all students who submitted names free day passes to the center.

Commissioner Ryan Bratcher also suggested inviting all of the students to Leitchfield Aquatic Center’s grand opening, which is currently scheduled for July 2014.

*Lea King, of the Alliance Corporation of Builders and Managers, requested that the Commission approve four change orders for the aquatic center project.

The first two change orders were related to purchase orders, and a motion was passed by the Commission to approve them.

The second two change orders were the $61,508.92 and $116,025.57 orders previously approved during the special-called Wednesday, October 30 Commission meeting.

King said because the second two change orders were time-sensitive, they required approval in October before the formal paperwork was drafted.

Now that the paperwork for the second two change orders was finalized, it needed approval, which the Commission passed a motion to provide.

King also reported that progress on the aquatic center’s construction is going well.

King said Jan Brown, the program administrator for Kentucky swimming pools and bathing facilities engineering, has begun visiting the construction site one to two times a week, as well.

In terms of the construction time-line, King said the project was going smoothly in regards to pool piping, and all major visible components had been selected.
