A new community basketball court is under construction in Clarkson.
Mayor Bonnie Henderson said that the First Street basketball facility has already been gravelled and will soon be blacktopped and have goals installed. The area will be also be fenced when completed, Henderson said.
The court has been largely built with donated funds and materials.
The Clarkson City Council also voted to purchase pergolas, tables and swings for the park’s playground area. The group said that concerns have been expressed by citizens about the lack of shade in the area, and the council felt that the playground would be more user-friendly if they included shade and sitting areas for parents who bring their children to play.
The council voted to spend $4,500 on the park improvement project.

- Clarkson’s annual tree-lighting and Christmas party will be held on Thursday, December 12 at 6 p.m. After the tree is lit, treats will be available at City Hall and Santa will be there to greet children and find out what is on their Christmas lists.
- The city’s annual audit was completed by CPA Bob Ryan, who said that Clarkson is in a good financial position.
“The city has debt,” Ryan said, “but is retiring that debt without any ongoing burden.”
Ryan explained that the only deficiency he could note was that there is only one city employee - this can cause issues with oversight, but Ryan said he does not feel like this is the case in Clarkson.
“There is plenty of oversight by the mayor and commissioners, and I don’t feel like this is an issue.”
