The Leitchfield Police Department recently received a grant to purchase body armor vests for the entire agency.
The grant totals $8,800 and marks the first time that the agency will be able to purchase body armor vests for every Leitchfield police officer, according to Assistant Leitchfield Chief of Police David Riley.
“We’ve utilized this [grant] before, but this is the first time we received a grant for the whole department,” Riley said.
The grant, which was applied for and granted through Kentucky Homeland Security, will fund the purchase of 16 body armor vests, for which Leitchfield police officers will be fitted on Monday, July 21.
Riley said the grant and body armor vests will be a big help to the LPD and its officers.
