Grayson County hospital Twin Lakes Regional Medical Center recently received a three-year term of accreditation in magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) as the result of a recent review by the American College of Radiology (ACR).

MRI is a non-invasive medical test that utilizes magnetic fields to produce anatomical images of internal body parts to help physicians diagnose and treat medical conditions.

The ACR gold seal of accreditation represents the highest level of image quality and patient safety and is awarded only to facilities that meet ACR Practice Guidelines and Technical Standards.

“Our goal is always to provide the highest level of caring and quality to all of our patients,” said Jerrod Davis, TLRMC Director of Diagnostic Imaging. “This certification is not mandatory, but it’s another way of demonstrating our commitment.”

The MR unit at TLRMC was installed during the recent hospital expansion and features one of the largest openings available to ensure patient comfort.

Josh Lally, Lead MR Technologist, said, “In fact, for many exams, this unit offers more room than an ‘open’ MR unit.”

In addition to featuring a larger opening, the system is also a High Field Strength Magnet, which results in superior image quality.

“We have had several physicians in Louisville send us patients because they said our image quality was superior,” said Davis.

TLRMC Chief Executive Officer Wayne Meriwether, MHA, said of the certification, “Receiving the American College of Radiology’s gold seal of accreditation is evidence, once again, that we have top-notch staff, working with the best equipment, providing the safest and highest quality care right here at home.”

The ACR is a national professional organization serving more than 36,000 diagnostic/interventional radiologists, radiation oncologists, nuclear medicine physicians, and medical physicists. Its programs focus on the practice of medical imaging and radiation oncology and the delivery of comprehensive health care services.

TLRMC is located at 910 Wallace Ave. in Leitchfield. For more information about the hospital, visit www.tlrmc.com, www.facebook.com/TwinLakesRegionalMedicalCenter, or call 270-259-9588.
