Car crashes into telephone pole

A single vehicle crashed headfirst into a telephone pole on Highway 54 in Leitchfield at around 2:10 p.m. on Thursday, October 31.
18-year-old Paige Ardt, of Caneyville, was driving westbound on Highway 54 at 55 miles per hour in a black 1994 Camaro when she looked down, looked back up, over-corrected “tremendously,” and crashed into a telephone pole, the responding Leitchfield Police Department said.
No one was injured as a result of the accident.
The LPD reported that Ardt was wearing her seat belt, and the vehicle’s air bags had deployed at the time of the accident.
The force of the collision cracked the telephone pole, powered by Kentucky Utilities (KU), and spun the Camaro around before it came to a rest in a ditch in front of the pole, according to the LPD.
While power was reportedly not lost as a result of the accident, only the telephone wires attached to the pole were holding it up and preventing it from falling into the road, said Tim Duvall, First Assistant Chief for the also responding Leitchfield Fire Department.
The LPD issued a citation to Ardt for her driving with an expired insurance card.
Following the removal of the Camaro from the scene by Ward’s Towing, Duvall said the LFD remained on scene to ensure that the pole was secure until KU arrived to repair it.
Grayson County Emergency Medical Services also responded to the accident.
